Women's Hoops Shoots Lights Out At Franklin

Franklin, IN – The Wittenberg Tiger Women's Basketball Team picked up their second win of the season, taking down the Grizzlies of Franklin College in a tough road battle, 74-65. The Tigers were put to the test, trailing the Grizzlies, 33-29, at the half. Wittenberg responded by outscoring Franklin 45-32 throughout the second half. Wittenberg finished with five Tigers tallying double digit points on the night. Kelsey Ragan led the scoring effort with 17 points, knocking down 6 of 10 from the floor, including 4 of 8 from deep range, playing all 40 minutes. Ragan added nine rebounds with two assists and two steals on the night.

The Tiger offense only continued to get better with time, shooting 36 percent in the first quarter, nearly 47 percent in the second. The Tigers rounded out the night with an outstanding 10 of 14 fourth quarter, shooting 71 percent from the floor.

Jade Simpson tallied her first double-double of the 22-23 season, posting 14 points with 12 rebounds which included five offensive boards. Evie Wolshire also tallied her first double-double of the season, tallying 12 points and 10 rebounds. Wolshire added three assists and a steal to her tally on the evening.

Taryn Cash and Molly Scott each added 11 points for the Tiger offense. Scott knocked down 4 of 5 from the floor, dishing out two assists and blocking two shots with four rebounds. Cash converted on 5 of 10, hitting her long three-point attempt. Cash also added five rebounds and two assists on the night.

Wittenberg put together a 10-point scoring run midway through the second quarter. The Tigers won the battle inside, dominating the points in the paint, 36-24. Wittenberg would also clean up on second chance opportunities, outscoring Franklin 13-4.

Wittenberg will return to action on Wednesday, November 16, traveling to Heidelberg University. Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm from Seiberling Gymnasium.
