Tigers Upset Number One Seed in NCAC Semifinal Game

Greencastle, IN- The number four seeded Wittenberg was in Greencastle, Indiana for the semifinal match of the NCAC tournament against the number one seeded DePauw Tigers. The Red & White saw DePauw earlier this season and fell with a 83-57 score. Looking for revenge in an important game, Wittenberg was able to upset the number one seed 55-52.

The Tigers were led by Taryn Cash, Delaney Williams, Abigail Yunker, Kristie Kalis, Jade Simpson on the court as Wittenberg's starting five. The starting line-up accumulated a total of 47 points, 24 rebounds, and an overall shooting percentage of 44.7%. As a team, Wittenberg was 36.2% in field goals, 22.2% in three points, and 69.2% from the line.

The Tigers led in scoring in two quarters of play and were able to lead statistically in field goal percentage, free throw percentage, and fast break points. While leading in scoring power, Wittenberg was also able to capitalize on Denison mistakes with 15 points coming from turnovers. Wittenberg was able to outscore DePauw in the second and third quarter to take a 41-35 lead going into the final quarter of play but the game remained tight with Wittenberg sneaking out with a three-point win.

Wittenberg Leaders- The Tigers had seven different individuals score, being led by Kristie Kalis with 13 points. Delaney Williams led the Red & White in assists with five on the night, and defensively Jade Simpson led the way with 11 rebounds.

NCAC Leaders- Four Tigers continue to sit in the top ten in the NCAC for statistics. Kristie Kalis sits at number nine in the conference for points this season with 324 after to last night's match-up. Kalis also lands in the top ten for field goals made this season with 113.  Jade Simpson leads the Tigers at number seven in the NCAC for field goal percentage at 47.9%, going 101-211. Kalis continues to lead the way in three points made at number four with 52 shots being made while Yunker sits just outside at number 12 with 27. Yunker does come in at number four in the conference for three-point percentage with an average of 38%. Just behind in three-point percentage is Kalis at number 10 with a 32.1% average. Going 48-59, Yunker lands at number two for field throw percentage with an 81.4% success rate. On the ball control side, Jade Simpson lands at number four in the conference for rebounds with 218; 138 being defensive and 77 being offensive. Delaney Williams sits at number three for assists on the season with 104 and number five in steals with 45 on the season.
