Tigers Go Undefeated in Tennessee

Nashville, TN- Wittenberg was back in action at Trevecca Nazarene University against Juniata College. The Tigers were coming off of a 61-52 win over Williams College and looked to go undefeated in Tennessee. With a 69-44 win over the Eagles, Wittenberg hit a four-game win streak to head into the New Year with a 7-5 record.

The Tigers were led by Taryn Cash, Delaney Williams, Abigail Yunker, Kristie Kalis, and Jade Simpson on the court as Wittenberg's starting five. The starting line-up accumulated a total of 44 points, 29 rebounds, and an overall shooting percentage of 40.2%. As a team, Wittenberg was able to control the game in field goals, three-points, rebounds, assists, and steals to pick up their seventh win of the 2021-22 season.

The Tigers controlled the game early, out-scoring Juniata 14-11 in the first quarter and 16-10 in the second quarter for a halftime score of 30-21. The first quarter led to four Tigers getting points on the board including Yunker, Kalis, Sam Wyatt, and Jaida Malone. Krisite Kalis led in first quarter stats with six points, while Taryn Cash and Malone each picked up two rebounds. Yunker continued to lead in the second quarter with seven points, starting things off with a three-point shot. Adding to the scoring power for Wittenberg were Delaney Williams and Lauren Legate to take the Red & White into the half with an 11-point lead.

Wittenberg continued to extend the lead in the third quarter, putting up 16 more points. Taking charge in the third quarter was Delaney Williams with six points and joining in on the scoring action was Kylee Slone. The Tigers slowed the Eagles to their lowest scoring quarter with only nine points for a 46-30 lead to start the fourth. The women put up their most points in the final quarter with 23 getting on the board. Mckenna Baker started off the fourth quarter with a layup and continued to put up seven points. Along with Baker, Mackenzie Pauley, Mack Snyder, and Madison Slone put up points to give Wittenberg a final score of 69-44.

Prior to tonight's match-up, Wittenberg has averaged 65.2 points per game, going 38.7% from the field, 28.7% in three-point percentage, and 68.6% from the line. Wittenberg was able to surpass their season average in field goal percentage for the fourth game in a row and surpass their season average for points. The Tigers went 39.1% from the field, 23.8% in three-points, and 63.6% from the line to improve their season average.

Wittenberg Leaders- The Tigers had thirteen different individuals score, being led by Abigail Yunker offensively with 13 points, going 6-6 from the line, 3-9 in the field, and 1-4 in three points. Following in points on the night was Delaney Williams with 11. Defensively, Jade Simpson led the way in rebounds, picking up four offensive and four defensive rebounds.

NCAC Leaders- Five Tigers sit in the top ten in the NCAC for statistics. Abigail Yunker sits at number nine for points in the NCAC with 137. Just behind Yunker is Kalis with 133 points. Jade Simpson sits at number nine in the conference for field goal percentage with a season average of 44.9%. Kalis and Yunker are in the top ten for three-points made this season with Kalis leading the way at number three, while Yunker sits at nine. For three-point percentage Yunker lands at number one in the conference with 46.7% while Kelsey Ragan lands at number six with 37.9%. Yunker also lands in the top ten for free-throw percentage, being put on the line 28 times this season for an average of 82.1%  On the ball control side, Jade Simpson lands at number eight in the conference for rebounds with 89; 59 being defensive and 30 being offensive.
