Tigers Fall in Overtime

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg was back home for a non-conference match-up against Capital. The Tigers have faced off with the Crusaders 46 times in program history with Capital leading the series 35-11. Wittenberg had an overtime opportunity to defeat the Crusaders for the first time since the 2017-18 season. The Tigers were able to lead in the first quarter and dominate in the second but were unable to hang onto their momentum in the third and fourth quarter which gave Capital the opportunity to tie the game and head to overtime where the Red & White ultimately fell 60-55.

The Tigers were led by Delaney Williams, Abigail Yunker, Kristie Kalis, Jade Simpson, and Kelsey Ragan on the court as Wittenberg's starting five. The starting line-up accumulated a total of 39 points, 23 rebounds, and an overall shooting percentage of 31.5%.

The Tigers were able to put up 13 points in the first quarter, shooting 60% from the field and 25% in three-point shots. Jade Simpson led the offense in the first quarter with six points while also taking charge on defense with six rebounds. In the second quarter, Wittenberg was able to control the game and put up 20 points, improving from the field with an 80% accuracy and going 2-4 on three's and 2-4 from the line. Simpson led in the second quarter with seven more points and three rebounds. Wittenberg led at the half with a 33-22 score. The Red & White were able to maintain the lead throughout the third quarter, heading into the fourth with a 43-38 lead. The Crusaders were able to close the gap in the fourth quarter and were able to tie the game twice with less than two minutes to play. The Tigers headed into their first overtime competition of the season with a 53-53 score before falling 60-55 in the final minutes.

Wittenberg Leaders- The Tigers were led by Abigail Yunker offensively with 14 points, going 4-5 from the line and 5-9 in the field. Following in points on the night was Jade Simpson with 12, with an overall shooting percentage of 41.1%. Simpson also led the way for Wittenberg in rebounds with 11 defensive and one offensive rebound. 

NCAC Leaders- Abigail Yunker sits at number seven in the conference for points on the season with a total of 84. Just outside the top ten for points Krisite Kalis at number 11 with 76. Jade Simpson sits at number nine in the conference for field goal percentage with a season average of 47.3%. Kalis, Yunker, and Ragan are all in the top ten for three-points made this season with Kalis leading the way at number three, while Ragan and Yunker sit at four and nine. For three-point percentage Yunker leads the conference with 52.9% while Ragan lands at number four with 43.5%. Yunker also lands in the top ten for free throws made, being put on the line for an attempt of 27 on the season and 15 made for an 77.3% accuracy. Defensively, Jade Simpson leads at number two in the conference for rebounds with 64; 44 being defensive and 18 being offensive. Delaney Williams sits at number one for assists on the season with 28 and number four for steals with 14.
