Tigers Split Wittenberg Tip-Off with Loss to Vikings

Springfield, OH- The Tigers were back in action for their second match-up of the Wittenberg Tip-Off. They faced off against the 4-1 Augustana Vikings. Wittenberg was coming off of a 79-54 win over Anderson and looked to improve their record to 3-1. After a very close back-and-fourth battle in the fourth quarter, Wittenberg fell 63-55.

The Tigers were led by Delaney Williams, Abigail Yunker, Kristie Kalis, Jade Simpson, and Kelsey Ragan stepped on the court as Wittenberg's starting five.

Yunker was able to put the first points on the board with a made lay-up. Wittenberg was able to get five more points up before panicking the Vikings into a timeout. Wittenberg continued to hold the lead in the first quarter and headed into the second with a 15-7 lead. The first quarter would be the only quarter that the Red & White lead in scoring. The Tigers were able to add 13 points to their total to head into halftime with a smaller lead but still ahead 28-22. Wittenberg had a shooting percentage of 35.7% from the field in the second quarter, 33.3% in three-pointers, and 33.3% from the foul line.

Stepping up in the third quarter was senior, Kristie Kalis going 3-4 from the field and 2-3 in three-pointers. Wittenberg improved their shooting percentage in the third going 38.9% from the field and 50% in three-point attempts. Wittenberg continued to lead but with a smaller 45-42 gap. The fourth quarter was the most challenging for Wittenberg who were only able to put ten points on the board, compared to Augustana's 21 but were able to grab the most rebounds in Tiger play with nine in the quarter. Augustana was able to take the lead in the fourth quarter but Kalis was able to tie the game 48-48 with a made three-point shot. The Tigers were able to regain the lead with a lay-up from Taryn Cash but the back-and-fourth battle would end with Wittenberg falling 63-55.

Wittenberg Leaders- Abigail Yunker led the Tigers with 13 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Just behind in points was Krisite Kalis with 11. Kalis also grabbed four rebounds and two steals. Jade Simpson led the Tigers in rebounds with up with six. Delaney Williams led the Tigers with seven assists which led to 19 points.

NCAC Leaders- Abigail Yunker sits at number five in the conference for points on the season with a total of 65. Just behind Yunker in NCAC points leaders is Krisite Kalis at number seven with 60. Yunker and Kalis also land in the top ten for field goals made, both tied at number six. Jade Simpson sits at number five in the conference for field goal percentage with a season average of 52.9. Also, in the top ten for field goal percentage is Kelsey Ragan with 48.3%. Kalis, Yunker, and Ragan are all in the top five for three-points made this season with Kalis leading the way at number two, while Yunker and Ragan sit at one and two for three-point percentage in the conference. Yunker also lands in the top ten for free throws made, being put on the line for an attempt of 15 on the season and 12 made for an 80% accuracy. Defensively, Jade Simpson leads at number five in the conference for rebounds with 38, 24 being defensive and 14 being offensive. Delaney Williams sits at number two for assists on the season with 23 and number eight for steals with nine.
