Tigers Open Wittenberg Tip-Off with Win

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg stepped back on the court in Pam Evans Smith Arena for the inaugural Wittenberg Tip-Off. Attending the tournament were the Tigers along with Anderson College and Augustana University. Wittenberg went into the tournament with a 1-1 record in the 2021-22 season in hopes to improve to 3-1 by the end of the weekend.  

The Tigers were led by Delaney Williams, Abigail Yunker, Jade Simpson, Kristie Kalis, and Kelsey Ragan got things started for Wittenberg as the starting five.

Kristie Kalis Led the first quarter for the Tigers with five points, followed by Sam Wyatt with four. Wittenberg was able to put 16 points on the board in the first quarter to lead by one going into the second. The Tigers led in rebounds for the first quarter with nine and four bring offensive rebounds. The second quarter, the Red & White were able to improve offensively with 20 points to extend their lead by four. Wittenberg headed into the half with a 26-22 lead.

The third quarter would be the Tiger's toughest quarter, being outscore 19-18 by the Ravens. The Red & White were able to bounce back in the fourth quarter with their highest scoring playing time. Wittenberg put up 25 points to claim a 79-54 victory in the first match-up of the Wittenberg Tip-Off.

The Tigers lead in ten statistical categories, going 48.4% from the field and scoring 28 points off of turnovers. Wittenberg also grabbed 43 rebounds with 11 being offensive and 32 being defensive rebounds. The team worked as a unit against the Ravens with 18 assists. The Red & White also led in bench points with 15, second chance points with 14, 42 points in the paint, and 12 points off of fast breaks.

Wittenberg Leaders- Abigail Yunker led the Tigers with 15 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Right behind in points were Krisite Kalis and Kelsey Ragan with 14 apiece. Jade Simpson stepped up with 18 rebounds, splitting offensive and defensive with 9 each. Delaney Williams led the Tigers with four assists which led to nine points.

NCAC Leaders- Abigail Yunker sits at number three in the NCAC for points per game with 18.5. Yunker also stands at number three for free throw percentage with an 88.9 accuracy rate, she is number two in the conference for free throws with 4.0-4.5. Yunker is tied at number one with teammate, Kelsey Ragan, for three-point percentage with 62.5%. The pair sit at number four in the conference for three-pointers per game with 2.5. Lastly, Yunker is tied at number five with Jade Simpson for field goals per game with 6. Krisite Kalis lands at number five in the conference for points per game with 17.5. Kalis is also in the top ten for three-point percentage with a 43.8% accuracy. Kalis is tied at number three currently for three-points made this season, going 7-16 and number two for three-points per game averaging 3.5. Kalis sits at number six for field goal percentage with 52%, while Jade Simpson is ahead at number five with 52.2%. Kalis also lands in the top ten for field goals per game with 6.5. Simpson averages 13.5 points per game, six of those being from the field, for an eighth place standing in the NCAC. Simpson also leads the NCAC in rebounds with an average of 13 per game and 26 on the season. While Delaney Williams leads the conference in assists with an average of five per game and 10 on the season.
