Tigers Take OT Win From Denison On The Road

Granville, OH – The Wittenberg women's basketball team claimed another win against the Big Red of Denison University on Saturday afternoon by a final of 61-58. The Tigers were led by senior Abigail Yunker, scoring a team-high 20 points and dishing out 11 assists for a second time this season. Yunker added eight rebounds to her total on the afternoon, reeling in seven boards at the defensive end. Sam Wyatt and Kristie Kalis finished in double figures on the day, as Wyatt tallied 13 points and Kalis added 10.

Game Breakdown

The first quarter saw a back-and-forth game between the Tigers and Big Red, as the two sides were knotted up at 18-18 after the first ten minutes. Yunker scored six points in the first quarter, knocking down 3 of 5 from the floor. Wyatt added five points to the Tiger effort. The Wittenberg offense gained momentum in the second quarter, outscoring the Big Red 14-10.  The next two quarters Wittenberg was able to extend the lead by six. In the fourth quarter, the Tigers let Denison back in the game eventually forcing the overtime period. During the overtime period the Tigers jumped out to the quick lead and stuck with it to the end, securing the 61-58 win. As a team, Wittenberg knocked down 25 of 57 shots from the floor, serving up 13 assists on 25 made baskets.

 

The Tigers end their season on a five-game win streak while going 5-3 overall.
