Tigers Fall In Home Opener

Springfield, OH- The Tigers were home for their first match-up of the 2020-21 season in a close contest with the Fighting Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan. The Red and White came out of tip-off ready to play and quickly put up five points from McKenna Baker and Sam Wyatt.

Wittenberg took an early 16-10 lead over OWU in the first quarter and were able to maintain their lead in the second quarter with the Tigers putting up eleven more points on the board. Wittenberg headed into half time with a slim 27-25 lead over the Fighting Bishops.

The Fighting Bishops did not let up in the third quarter and were able to tie the game with a 36-36 score and under four to play. Wittenberg was able to stay ahead by two with a three-point shot from Kristie Kalis in the final minute of the quarter.

The fourth quarter would be the most challenging for the Tigers who lost their lead for the first time in the game with a 45-41 score. The Fighting Bishops took their biggest lead of the game with a 54-44 score and under two to play. The Tigers continued to fight back but were unable to lessen the lead and fell to Ohio Wesleyan with a score of 55-44.

Wittenberg was led by Abigail Yunker and McKenna Baker on the offensive end, both putting nine points on the board followed by Sam Wyatt who was able to put up eight points.

Up Next: The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, February 13th for a road match-up with Ohio Wesleyan. Tip-off is at 3PM and spectators will be able to view the game virtually.
