Tigers Continue Winning Streak At Wooster

Wooster, OH - The Wittenberg women's basketball team met up with North Coast Athletic Conference foe the College of Wooster Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon from Timken Gym. The Tigers picked up their ninth win in a row, defeating the Scots 80-74, moving to 12-4 on the season and 5-2 in NCAC action. The Tigers were led by Abigail Yunker on the afternoon, posting 19 points, adding six rebounds with four assists with one blocked shot. Three fellow Tigers finished tallying double-digits on the afternoon, with Delaney Williams adding 17 points with eight rebounds. Korynne Berner and Kristie Kalis each added 15 points for the Red and White. 

Game Breakdown

Wittenberg jumped out to a 25-19 advantage after the first quarter of action. The Tigers held onto their lead at 37-27 midway through the second quarter. Wittenberg knocked down 21 of 37 shots from the field, taking a 46-40 lead into the half. The Tigers were paced by Berner through the early going, tallying 15 points, adding four rebounds to her first-half total. Williams tallied nine points in the opening quarter, grabbing three rebounds, adding three assists and a steal. Yunker dished out three assists with three rebounds through the first two-quarters of action, finishing with 10 points at the break. The two sides continued to trade points, as each side scored 17 points in the third quarter. Wittenberg held onto a 74-67 advantage with just under four minutes in the action.  In the back and forth that continued into the fourth quarter, Williams added five points to her total, dishing out two assists. Kalis added six points down the stretch with two steals to go along with an assist and a rebound in the final quarter. Wittenberg knocked down 33 of their 65 shots from the floor, including converting on 9 of 10 from the foul line. The Red and White won the battle on the boards 39-32, completing 21 assists on 33 made baskets.

"We really rose to some challenges today in many ways. I thought Delaney Williams did an amazing job of leading us and her stat line is awesome having played 40 minutes," said Head Coach Kelly Mahlum. 

UP NEXT

Wittenberg will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 22 traveling to Ohio Wesleyan University where they will wrap up the first half of their NCAC schedule. Tip-off against the Battling Bishops is set for 7:00 PM.
