Tigers Take Down Gators

Springfield, OH- The Tigers were back at Pam Evans Smith Arena after a 68-48 win over Hiram College to face off against the Allegheny Gators. Wittenberg met the Gators for the 66th time in program history, with the Tigers leading the series. After last night's win, the Tigers were hungry for more. Wittenberg would be able to improve their record to 10-4 after defeating the Gators with a score of 70-48.

Senior, Riley Culver got things started for the Tigers putting up the first four points. Wittenberg was able to get the lead early over the Gators, but a determined Allegheny team caught up and stuck with the Tigers through the first quarter, only behind by six points. Wittenberg went into the second quarter leading 15-9.

Wittenberg's offense worked together and made a third of their points from assists while the defense was able to limit Allegheny's offense to only six points, less than what they were able to put up in the first quarter. Tigers went into the half with a 19 point lead over the Gators to give them a score of 34-15. Wittenberg led in shooting with a 46.7% field goal percentage, 44.4% in 3-point field goals, and 50.0% in free throws going into the third quarter.

Korynne Berner led the Tigers in points through the third quarter, picking up 15, followed close behind by Kristie Kalis with 13. The Tigers took confidence from the second quarter into the third to extend their lead by 21 points pushing the game further-and-further from a Gator comeback.

Wittenberg continued to score in the fourth quarter, putting up 13 points in the first half of the quarter. Kalis and Berner ended the game leading the Tigers in scoring, putting up a combined 36 on the night. Riley Culver took care of rebounds, picking up a total of eight to keep Allegheny's hands off the ball. Wittenberg ended the game with a FG% of 44.8%, 3-point % of 33.3%, and FT% of 73.3%.

NCAC Leaders: Korynne Berner leads the NCAC in field goal percentage, knocking down 51.9% of her attempts from the floor. Nora Hopkins is third in three-point field goal percentage, converting on 38.2% from deep range. Delaney Williams joins her fellow Tigers in the NCAC's top five for steals. Williams is currently second in the NCAC averaging 2.8 takeaways a game.
