Women’s Basketball Drops Hard-Fought Home Opener

Springfield, OH- The Tigers hosted Transylvania University in their 2019-20 home opener in Pam Evans Smith Arena. This was the fourth time that the Tigers and Pioneers met with Wittenberg leading the series 2-1. Tonight the Tigers fell short in the last seconds with a score of 59-56.

The Tigers ended the game with a 34.4 FG%, 53.8 FT%, 32 rebounds, and 14 assists. The Pioneers were able to get on the board first but Senior, Korynne Berner was able to respond quickly. Transylvania was able to go on a run in the first quarter and went into the second up 16-9. The Tigers came back from a 20-9 deficit to lead 32-29 going into the half. Wittenberg was able to keep the lead in the third quarter with 20 points to bring the score to 52-42. The fourth quarter became a close battle for the Tigers, only putting up four points. The Pioneers were able to take the lead with thirty one seconds left in the fourth and end the game 59-56.

Key Players: Abigail Yunker led the Tigers in points after going on a run in the third quarter, alongside Berner both putting up 14, the duo were 45.8% on FT and grabbed twelve rebounds. Riley Culver was able to retrieve six defensive rebounds for the Tiger defense and keep them close.
