Women Take Season Opener Win

Erie, PA- Wittenberg opened their 2019-20 campaign on the road in Erie for the PSU-Behrend Tournament. The Tigers faced off against Heidelberg for their first game of the tournament with Wittenberg taking over 59-48, defeating Heidelberg for the third consecutive year.

The Tigers start of the season with a 39.3 FG%, 18.2 FT%, 48 rebounds, and 17 assists. Heidelberg was able to get numbers on the board first in the first quarter and stayed in front of the Tigers until Nora Hopkins was able to drain a 3-pt jump shot with an assist from Abigail Yunker to take the lead 11-9. Wittenberg posted 6 unanswered points in the second quarter and went into the half up 25-20. Heidleberg stayed close behind Wittenberg for the third and fourth quarter but were unable to close the gap against the Tigers.

Key Players: Riley Culver led the team in total rebounds with six defensive and one offensive rebound, Culver also posted 12 points for the Tigers. Korynne Berner joined Culver with 12 points and 7 rebounds to keep Wittenberg in the lead while Delaney Williams led both teams in assists, helping the Tigers with seven shots. Kristie Kalis held Wittenberg defense down with six defensive rebounds and three blocks to hold Heidelberg to a 30 FG%.
