Women's Hoops Sends Off Five Seniors With Win Over Oberlin

Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's basketball team celebrated the careers of five seniors on Saturday afternoon, taking down the Yeowomen of Oberlin College, 60-48. The Tigers started the day by honouring Hannah Weaver, Amanda Raber, Alex Kiess, Sydney Mayle and Abigail Crum for their hard work and dedication to the Wittenberg women's basketball program during their time on campus. Four Tigers scored in double-digits on the day against the Yeowomen, as Delaney Williams tallied a team-high 13 points adding four assists with three steals and three rebounds.

Game Breakdown

As the Red and White started all five seniors in their final regular season game at Pam Evans Smith Arena. The Tigers overcame an early Oberlin, 12-10 first-quarter lead, outscoring the visiting team 17-7 going into the intermission, converting on 43 percent from the floor in the second quarter. Wittenberg took a 27-19 lead into the half, as Williams came off the bench scoring six of her total points in the first half, tallying three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Riley Culver tallied a team-leading five rebounds heading into the intermission, to go along with her four points and one steal. Coming out of the break, the Tigers extended their range and their lead, outscoring the Yeowomen 20-14, converting on 3 of 6 from beyond the arc. McKenna Baker knocked down three three-pointers in the second half, tallying all 11 of her points in the final 20 minutes of action. Midway through the fourth quarter the Red and White secured a 10-point advantage over Oberlin, going up 57-43 on back-to-back made three-pointers. Wittenberg shot 50 percent from the floor and 50 percent from deep range to close out the game in the fourth quarter, holding on for the win.

Who Stood Out

Culver tallied 12 points, converting on 5 of 12 looks from the floor, adding eight rebounds. Kristie Kalis came in under the radar with yet another double-double, finishing the night with 11 points and 10 rebounds, adding three steals and one assist. Baker finished her day with 11 points, finishing 4 of 6 from the floor and 3 of 4 from beyond the arc, adding two rebounds and a steal.

Wittenberg will host Oberlin in the first round of the NCAC Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 8:00 PM from Pam Evans Smith Arena.
