Tigers Suffer Tough Road Loss At Kenyon

Gambier, Ohio – The Wittenberg University women's basketball fell to the Ladies of Kenyon College, 80-59, in a tough road contest on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers finished with two players scoring in double figures, as Kristie Kalis recorded 17 points and Alex Kiess tallied 11. Wittenberg moves to 12-8 on the season and 6-5 in NCAC action.

Game Breakdown

Kalis (4) and Kiess (5) combined for nine of Wittenberg's 16 points to start the game. Amanda Raber pulled down four rebounds in the first quarter for the Red and White. Delaney Williams came on strong in the second quarter with eight points, knocking down 3 of 5 from the floor before the break. Wittenberg trailed 42-33 at the break, as Williams led the scoring effort with eight points and Kalis followed close behind with six points. Coming out in the third quarter, the Tigers knocked down 5 of 10 from the floor. Kalis added eight points to her total going 3 for 3 from the field, including 2 for 2 from deep range. Wittenberg was unable to keep the rally going in the fourth quarter, as the Ladies outscored the Tigers 19-7.

Who Stood Out

Kiess finished the day 3 of 9 from the floor and a perfect 5 of 5 from the charity stripe for 11, logging 11 points and two rebounds. Kalis hauled in seven rebounds with two assists and a steal, knocking down 5 of 11 from the floor and 3 of 5 from deep, and going perfect 4 of 4 from the free-throw line. Raber added six points to go along with seven rebounds and two assists. Riley Culver posted seven points with five rebounds and a steal.

Wittenberg will return to action on Friday, Feb. 1 to host the Terriers of Hiram College in an NCAC showdown at 6:00 PM from Pam Evans Smith Arena.
