Tigers Fall In Close Battle At Oberlin

Oberlin, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's basketball team fell just short of picking up their sixth straight win, closing out a three-game road trip to open 2019 against the Yeowomen of Oberlin College, falling 56-52. The Red and White were paced by Delaney Williams and Riley Culver, each finishing the game in double figures. Wittenberg moves to 9-6 on the season and 3-3 in NCAC contests.

Game Breakdown

Wittenberg opened the game by taking a 20-8 lead, knocking down 8 of 16 from the field in the first quarter. The Tigers fended off a second-quarter Oberlin attack, taking a 30-21 lead into the half. Culver led the Wittenberg scoring effort going into the break, posting 9 of her 11 total points in the first quarter. Sophomore Delaney Williams found her rhythm in the second half, pouring in 11 of her 14 total points, while picking up two rebounds, along with a steal. Oberlin came out in the second half, shooting 50 percent from the field and outscoring the Tigers 35-22 over the final twenty minutes.

Who Stood Out

Williams finished with 14 points, four steals, three rebounds, and three assists. Culver added four rebounds, three assists, and two steals, with a blocked shot to go with 11 points. Kristie Kalis cleaned up on the glass for the Red and White, pulling down 10 rebounds, while adding nine points, and a steal.
