Tigers Down Gators For Fifth Straight Win

Meadville, Pa. – The Wittenberg women's basketball team picked up their fifth-straight win, downing the Gators of Allegheny College, 97-51. The Tigers finished with four players scoring in double-figures, led by Kristie Kalis pacing the offensive effort for the second day in a row with a season-high 24 points on a season-high 78 percent shooting mark from the field, as she converted on 11-of-14 attempts from the floor. Wittenberg moves to 9-5 on the season and 3-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference action.

Game Breakdown

Wittenberg jumped out to an early 33-14 lead by the end of the first quarter. Kalis knocked down her first five looks from the field, finishing with 11 points by the end of the first, while also pulling down three rebounds. The Tigers took a 49-26 lead into the break, as the Red & White managed to hold Allegheny to shoot just 25 percent from the field in the second quarter. Kalis was unstoppable coming out of the break, knocking down all five of her attempts from the field, adding 10 points to her total. The Tigers extended their lead in the fourth quarter, as their bench outscored the Gators, 24-5.

Who Stood Out

The Tigers finished the game shooting 60 percent from the field with four players in double figures. Korynne Berner posted 12 points, converting on 5-of-7 from the field, while also pulling down six rebounds and coming up with two steals. McKenna Baker added 11 points to the Wittenberg total, knocking down 3-of-4 from deep, to go along with dishing out six assists. Delaney Williams was the final Tiger in double digits, scoring 10 points to go along with her six assists and one steal. Riley Culver, Abigail Yunker, and Hannah Weaver each finished just a bucket shy of the double-digit mark, with eight points each.
