Tigers Start 2019 With Fourth Straight Win

Hiram, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's basketball team picked up their fourth straight win, taking down the Terriers of Hiram College, 71-54. Beginning their 2019 campaign, the Tigers took a 45-27 lead into the intermission. A trio of Tigers finished in double figures, as Kristie Kalis led the way with 19 points. Wittenberg has won their fourth consecutive game, moving to 8-5 on the season and improving to 2-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference action.

Game Breakdown

Wittenberg jumped out to an early 22-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers continued to add to their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Terriers 23-13 before the half. Kalis led the Wittenberg offensive effort with 10 points at the break, adding two rebounds and five assists along with a blocked shot heading into the intermission. Wittenberg would fend off a Hiram surge coming out of the break, as the Terriers would lead the third quarter scoring, 19-11. The Tigers shut down the Hiram offensive in the fourth quarter, holding the Terriers to just 18 percent shooting from the field. Wittenberg would go on to outscore Hiram 15-8 down the stretch, posting a 46 percent mark from the field.

Who Stood Out

Alex Kiess finished as the second leading scorer for Wittenberg, posting 14 points with three assists, two rebounds, and two steals. The final Tiger finishing in double figures was Riley Culver, posting 12 points, pulling down six rebounds to go along with her two assists and two blocked shots. Sydney Mayle provided seven points off the bench, while Abigail Yunker added five points in 17 minutes. McKenna Baker came up with four steals for the Tigers in 14 minutes.
