Wittenberg Women's Hoops Celebrates Play-4-Kay

Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's basketball team returned to Pam Evans Smith Arena, taking down the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan 68-56 on Wednesday evening. Wittenberg finished with three scoring in double figures, Korynne Berner and Alex Kiess setting the pace early in the first half, scoring 10 points each. The Tiger's would be led by freshman Delaney Williams, recording 18 points on 53 percent shooting from the field. Wittenberg improves to 13-11 on the season and 8-7 in NCAC action.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Wittenberg offense was started by Kiess in the first quarter, as she tallied eight of her total 15 points. Berner added six out of her total 14 in the first quarter. Berner came alive on the boards in the second quarter, reeling in four rebounds of her nine total on the night. Wittenberg outscored the Battling Bishops 22-16 in the first quarter, shooting 57 percent from the field. The Tiger's went into the break with a 33-30 lead, shooting 40% from the field while holding Ohio Wesleyan to zero points from beyond the arc. Out of the break, it was all Williams, scoring 14 of her 18 points on six of eight from the field, adding three rebounds in ten minutes of action. Another hot start for the Tiger's shooting 52 percent from the field in the third quarter, connecting on nine of 17 attempts. Sydney Mayle provided four of her six rebounds down the stretch in the fourth quarter, adding four of her seven points.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Wittenberg shot 43 percent from the field, converting on 25 of 58 attempts. The Tigers cleaned up the glass, winning the rebound column 40-32. The inside game was dominated by Wittenberg scoring 36 points in the paint while picking up 16 second-chance points. Wittenberg was able to capitalize off of Ohio Wesleyan's misfortunes, scoring 21 points off of turnovers.

 

UP NEXT: Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, February 17 to celebrate Senior Day before their last regular season home game against the College of Wooster. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
