Women's Hoops Falls To #9 DePauw

Greencastle, Ind. – The Wittenberg women's basketball team took on the #9 Tigers of DePauw University, falling to the top 10 team in the land 57-46. Wittenberg would finish with two players posting double figures on the night, as freshman Delaney Williams led the scoring effort with 15 points. Junior Sydney Mayle followed close behind scoring 11 points, knocking down three of six attempts from beyond the arc.  Wittenberg goes to 9-10 on the season and 4-6 in North Coast Athletic Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Wittenberg would go into the break trailing DePauw 36-17. After getting off to a slow start, Williams would post seven of her nine points in the second quarter. The freshman guard would go on to add four rebounds, four assists, and three steals to her total on the night. Wittenberg would find their resurgence coming into the second half going on to outscore DePauw 17-8 in the third quarter. Williams would add her final six points in the third quarter. Kristie Kalis added six points in the third quarter converting on both her shots from the field and the charity stripe. Mayle posted all of her points in the second half. With five of her 11 points in the monstrous third quarter that Wittenberg put up. The Columbus native tallied six of the 12 scored for Wittenberg in the fourth quarter. Senior Haley Dannemiller pulled down a team-leading six rebounds with three coming in the third quarter. Dannemiller finished with five points, adding three blocked shots, two assists, and two steals.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Wittenberg converted on 28% from the floor, knocking down 9 of 11 attempts from the charity stripe. Wittenberg continued to space the floor, sharing the basketball with 12 assists on the night. Wittenberg had some help from their reserves as the Tiger bench tallied 15 points.

FROM THE BENCH: "I really liked the fight I saw in us in the second half. We need that fight and determination through four quarters," said head coach Kelly Mahlum. 

UP NEXT: Wittenberg returns home for an alumni day on Saturday, January 27 taking on the Big Red of Denison University. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM. The alumni game is set for 10:00 AM.
