Women's Basketball Takes Over Heidelberg

Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's basketball team defeated the Heidelberg University Student Princes 75-53 in their final game before the holiday break on Thursday evening. The Tigers were led by junior Sydney Mayle, posting 17 points along with eight rebounds. Mayle recorded 10 of her 17 in the third quarter on a perfect five of five shooting from the field. After holding Heidelberg to just 22% shooting through the first quarter, Wittenberg took a 36-30 lead into the intermission. The Tigers would go on to outscore Heidelberg 39-23 over the final two quarters.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Tigers finished with four players scoring in double digits. Delaney Williams led the way after the first quarter, scoring 10 of her final 11 points. The freshman guard added four rebounds and two assists to her final line. Amanda Raber tallied four points in the second quarter. Mayle picked up three rebounds and a steal before the break. Coming off the bench for five points each, Kristie Kalis and Hannah Weaver provided support for the Tigers in the fourth quarter. Weaver added two steals, while Kalis provided five rebounds. Junior Alex Kiess counted a basket in all four quarters.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Wittenberg converted on 46% of their chances from the floor, and unloading 47% from deep range. Forcing 14 turnovers, the Tigers scored 17 points off of Student Princes' miscues. The Tigers' bench accounted for 24 of their final count.

FROM THE BENCH: "We are very happy to enter the Christmas break with a three-game win streak. We have had very balanced scoring with either three or four people in double figures the last three games. And our players come off the bench have done an awesome job outscoring or opponents 85 points to 30 points over the last three games," coach Mahlum said, "We have had three great team wins."
