Women's Basketball Holds Off Capital

Columbus, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's basketball team held off the Crusaders of Capital University, earning the 56-52 road win on Tuesday night. After taking an early 31-16 lead into the intermission, led by Kristie Kalis with 10 points off the bench. The Tigers stifled the Crusaders comeback attempts through the second half, though Capital would outscore Wittenberg 36-25 through the final two quarters. 

The Wittenberg offensive attack was led by freshman Delaney Williams, recording a career-high 15 points with four assists, two steals, and two rebounds. Finishing with 14 points, Kalis caught fire from deep in the second quarter knocking down all three of her three-point attempts. Kalis would fill up her stat sheet, adding six rebounds, five steals, two assists and a block in 30 minutes of action.

While Wittenberg may have only won the rebounding war 42-41 on the evening. Freshman Korynne Berner led all players with 10 rebounds, including six offensive boards. Berner added three blocked shots and logged four points for Wittenberg on the night.

Though the Crusaders still holde the series lead, the Tigers have been trading wins back and forth with Capital over the past six or seven season. This is the first time Wittenberg has taken down a Crusaders team on their home court since the 2013-14 season. This second win in a row, the Tigers will improve to 2-1 on the young season.

UP NEXT: Wittenberg will return to action after the holiday break, continuing their road trip from the Marietta College Turkey Shoot. The Tigers will take on Carnegie Mellon in the first game on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 8:00 PM.
