Wittenberg Drops Overtime Thriller to OWU

DELEWARE, Ohio—Wittenberg women's basketball took to the road to take on Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday night, as the two teams would need overtime to determine a winner.  After clawing back from a ten-point deficit, the Tigers managed to tie the game up late in regulation at 58-58 before going to overtime. Wittenberg only managed to produce four points in the overtime period, falling 70-62 to the Battling Bishops. Wittenberg was led by sophomore guard Alex Kiess who scored 18 points, including three three-pointers. The Tigers move to 10-14 overall and 6-9 in NCAC play with one final regular season contest remaining.

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • The Tigers trailed 34-28 at halftime behind ten points from senior forward Michelle Brunswick.
  • Bobbie Clayton recorded a layup with 3:40 left in the third quarter to cut the Battling Bishop lead to 41-37.  
  • Liz Tolliver went one of two from the free-throw line with 1:11 remaining in the third-quarter, as the Tigers pulled within one at 43-42.
  • With 4:46 remaining in the in the fourth-quarter, the Tigers knotted things up at 48-48 as Haley Dannemiller hit a layup after pulling down an offensive board.
  • Wittenberg allowed an OWU run that put the Battling Bishops up 55-50 with 2:52 remaining in regulation.
  • After a Riley McDonald made layup with 2:14 remaining cut the OWU lead to 55-52, Kiess splashed home a three-pointer, tying the game at 55-55 with 1:36 remaining.
  • With 45 seconds remaining in the contest, Kiess was not done, sending another three-pointer through the bottom of the net, giving the Tigers the lead at 58-55.
  • OWU would hit a three of their own with 23 seconds remaining, sending the game into overtime with the scored tied 58-58.
  • Wittenberg only managed to connect on one field-goal in the overtime, falling 70-62.

  • As a team, the Tigers shot 35% from the floor, as the Battling Bishops recorded a field-goal percentage of 33%.
  • Wittenberg was outrebounded in the contest 48-40, as Clayton paced the Tigers with seven.
