Tigers Upend Hiram in Big NCAC Win

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg women's hoops bounced back quickly from a win on Friday night to take on the Terriers of Hiram on Saturday as NCAC play rolled on. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, but the Terriers kept pace with the Tigers all afternoon. Entering the contest at 15-6 and 7-5 in league play, the Terriers of Hiram posed as a tough test for Wittenberg, but thanks to efficient passing and defense, the Tigers handled the Terriers 51-45. Leading by as many as eight in the contest, Wittenberg was lead by Michelle Brunswick, who scored eight points, pulled down 12 rebounds, dished out five assists, recorded two steals and one block on Saturday. Wittenberg now moves to 10-12 and 6-7 overall in 2016-17 with their second NCAC victory in as many days.

 GAME NOTES
  • Wittenberg and Hiram were deadlocked at 11-11 after the first quarter, while the Tigers outscored the Terriers 10-8 in the second quarter to take a 21-19 lead into halftime.  
  • Bobbie Clayton hit a layup with 2:55 remaining in the third quarter to tie the game up at 31-31 for the Tigers.
  • Amanda Raber connected on both of her free-throws with :10 remaining in the third quarter, as the Tigers trailed heading into the fourth quarter 36-35.
  • The Tigers only three-pointer on the afternoon came out of the hands of Alex Kiess, who splashed home the long ball on an assist from Brunswick with 9:17 remaining, giving the Tigers the 38-36 lead.
  • In a five second span, Madison Linn poured in four huge points for the Tigers in the form of two free-throws and a layup, extending her team's lead to 44-38.
  • Wittenberg would connect on their free-throws down the stretch to seal the deal at 51-45.

  • Wittenberg's stifling defense forced Hiram into tough shots all afternoon, as Terries shot 12-60 from the field for 20%.
