Wittenberg Drops NCAC Contest to Denison on the Road

GRANVILLE, Ohio—Wittenberg women's basketball looked to bounce back in NCAC play against the Big Red of Denison on the road on Saturday, but the home team had other plans in Granville. Wittenberg trailed 34-16 at halftime, and could not overcome the early deficit. Wittenberg was lead offensively by Amanda Raber who scored 11 points off the bench for the Tigers. The Tigers fell at the final buzzer 65-42, as Denison shot nearly 60% from the floor in the contest. The loss sends the Tigers to 8-12 (4-7) in 2016-17, and returns to action on February 3 against Alleghey.

GAME NOTES

  • Wittenberg scored six points in the first quarter of action on Saturday, jumping out to a 6-2 lead, before Denison went on a 16-0 run to end period.  
  • Sydney Mayle scored three of her ten points with 7:55 remaining in the second, as a three pointer found the bottom of the net to cut the Denison lead to 20-9.
  • Raber's 11 points off the bench sparked the Tigers, as the sophomore did damage in the second quarter for the red and white, nailing a triplet to cut the Big Red lead to 27-14.
  • Wittenberg trailed by as many as 25 in the second half as Denison was red hot from the floor in the contest, eventually defeating the Tigers 65-42.

KEY STATS

  • Raber recorded double digits for the Tigers for the second time in her career, as the sophomore's career high 17 points came against Mount Saint Joseph back in December.
  • Michelle Brunswick continued to maintain her presence on the boards for Wittenberg, as the senior pulled down six rebounds.
  • In the game, Wittenberg went a perfect 14-14 from the free-throw line, as Denison went 6-7.
  • Wittenberg only recorded four assists in the loss, while Denison recorded 21.
