Tigers Fight Hard, But Fall Short to DePauw

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg women's basketball had the first place team in the league on the ropes for a split second in the second half on Wednesday night, as the Tigers of Wittenberg's hard fought efforts came up short in a loss to DePauw 51-38. Wittenberg's defense caused problems for the sharp-shooting Tigers of DePauw on Wednesday, holding the visitors to 34.5% from the floor. Despite falling down 21-4 after one quarter, Wittenberg came roaring back and had all the momentum before DePauw ended the Tigers run abruptly, going on a run of their own to put the game out of reach. Alex Kiess continued to shoot the lights out of Pam Evans Smith Arena, leading the Tigers with 14 points. 

GAME NOTES

  • After falling down 21-4 in the first quarter, Wittenberg outscored DePauw 13-9 in the second quarter behind six Kiess points.  
  • Kiess scored seven consecutive points to put the Tigers down 39-26 in the third quarter.
  • The Tigers would not get any closer in the contest, falling 51-38.
  • DePauw outrebounded Wittenberg 36-31, and outscored the red and white 20-14 in the paint.
  • Michelle Brunswick paced the tigers with seven rebounds, while Sydney Mayle recorded two steals to go along with her four points.
