Tigers Lose Back End of Homestand to Allegheny

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Coming off a big NCAC victory over Hiram College Friday night, the Wittenberg Tigers women's basketball team returned to action Saturday afternoon against visiting NCAC foe Allegheny. The hot start that the Tigers benefited from on Friday night did not hold true in Saturday's matchup. Wittenberg fought hard all night long, but could not get things going on the offensive end, shooting 21-percent from the floor in the 79-53 loss. Saturday's NCAC loss moved the Tigers to 6-13 on the season and 5-7 in conference play.

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • The Tigers trailed 25-14 at the end of the first-quarter, and 42-26 heading into halftime Saturday afternoon.
  • With 6:53 remaining in the third quarter, Riley McDonald (Dexter, Michigan/Dexter) drove the lane for a layup that put the Tigers down 29-22.
  • At the 6:10 mark in the third, Taylore Bundy (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) rimmed out a three-pointer that would have cut the lead to five-points.
  • From that point on, the Tigers allowed the Gator offense to regain momentum throughout the quarter, going on a 25-7 run in the fourth-quarter.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison) had a stellar night for the Tigers on both ends of the floor, recording a 12 point, 12 rebound double-double.
  • Madison Linn (Piqua, Ohio/Miami East) contributed ten points off the bench for the Tigers in back-to-back strong outings.

KEY STATS

  • Brunswick's double-double included an impressive eight offensive rebounds.
  • On the night, the Tigers pulled in a season best 56 boards including 34 offensive boards.
  • The Tigers could not get out of their own way Saturday night, turning the ball over 24 times in the loss.

FROM THE BENCH

  • "We got outscored 24-7 in the fourth-quarter…That was tough when we could not change the dynamic of the game. Getting that close and not catching a break is hard, having to keep coming back is very tough. I thought Michelle Brunswick was all over the court trying to will this team into getting back in the game…we will figure out a way to get our shots to fall and get focused for Wednesday," said Coach Jurewicz.

UP NEXT

  • The Tigers return to action with another NCAC home-matchup February 10, at 6p.m. against DePauw.
