Wittenberg Suffers Road Loss to Denison 60-47

GRANVILLE, Ohio—The Wittenberg Tigers continued their NCAC road trip by travelling to Denison to take on the Big Red Saturday afternoon. Despite leading at halftime, Wittenberg suffered a 60-47 defeat. The Tigers battled tough all afternoon, led by Taylore Bundy's (Olentangy,Ohio/Olentangy Orange) 17 points and four rebounds. Bundy fueled the offense in the first half, dropping 12 points before the break. In the third and fourth quarter, the Tigers were held to a combined 19 points in the loss. Saturday's defeat moves the Tigers to 5-12 overall and 4-6 in NCAC Play.

 

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • Wittenberg led by as many as seven-points in the first half, taking a 28-21 lead after a Bundy three-pointer.
  • Out of the break, Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Madison/Ohio) put the Tigers on the board first, pushing their lead to 30-22 on a made jumper ten-seconds into the half.
  • With 41 seconds left in the third quarter, Denison clawed back to tie things up at 41-41.
  • At the start of the fourth quarter, Wittenberg kept pace with Denison before allowing the Big Red to go on 10-1 run.
  • Sydney Mayle (Powell, Ohio/Watterson) and Madison Linn (Piqua, Ohio/Miami East) combined for six points late to cut the Big Red lead down to striking distance, but time ran out for the Tigers as the final buzzer sounded with visiting team down 60-47.

  • Wittenberg shot 33.3% from the field Saturday afternoon.
  • The Tigers defense forced 12 turnovers that resulted in eight Tiger points.

  • "We are very encouraged by our team's effort today, playing very tough in the first-half. While we stayed steady in the third quarter, we just could not slow down their offensive explosion in the fourth. Denison played solid defense down the stretch and I compliment them on their strong execution," said Coach Jurewicz.
