Tigers Drop NCAC Matchup to Kenyon

Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg women's basketball youngest star Roz Abbott was announced to begin the Tigers line-up against the Ladies of Kenyon College on Wednesday night. The Pre-K Tiger was all smiles on the bench as Wittenberg went back and forth with Kenyon down the stretch, falling to the Ladies 48-45. Wittenberg jumped out to a quick six point lead through the first three minutes, before the Ladies were able to trade baskets to knot things up at 12 to end the first quarter. The loss drops Wittenberg to 4-11 on the season, and 3-5 in NCAC play.

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • The second quarter didn't see the first basket fall until after the four minutes had elapsed, leading to a 7-2 Wittenberg run.
  • The spark was ignited by back-to-back Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison) and Becca Ziska (Brook Park, Ohio/Berea-Midpark) buckets to regain the lead for the Tigers.
  • Brunswick led the team in rebounds for the second straight game hauling in a season high 15 boards, pulling down 10 in the first half.
  • Ziska finished as the Tigers leading scorer with 11 points, knocking down 3 of 5 from beyond the arc before the first intermission.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Wittenberg found success down the stretch outshooting Kenyon 80% (16-20) to the Ladies 60% (3-5) from the free-throw line.
  • The Tigers took good care of the ball on the night, committing one turnover through the second half, taking advantage of the Ladies errors scoring 10 points off 15 Kenyon turnovers.

KEY STATS

  • Wittenberg shot 21% from the field and from the beyond the arc.
  • Haley Dannemiller (Cleves, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) provided 8 points to the Wittenberg offense, going a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe.

  • "I'm proud of how we came out and how we came back... We are taking good care of the basketball with only one turnover through the second half… We had a chance to win down the stretch, and sometimes it will fall and sometimes it doesn't… It's all about getting the offense going and keeping the team spirits up," said Head Coach Jurewicz

  • The Tigers will hit the road next Wednesday Jan. 27 to take on the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan at 7:30PM.
