SPRINGFIELD, OHIO -- Behind a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double from Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison), the Wittenberg Tigers held on with a 57-54 victory to open up NCAC play over the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops.
Sidney Mayle (Powell, Ohio/Watterson) was all over the court for the Tigers, contributing eight points and six rebounds, while Becca Ziska (Brook Park, Ohio/Berea-Midpark) drained three clutch three-pointers, all in the fourth-quarter, to help seal the deal for Wittenberg.
The victory puts Wittenberg at 1-0 in the conference and 2-3 overall on the season.
GAME BREAKDOWN
- The Tigers trailed at halftime 28-24 after surrendering six first-half three-pointers to the Battling Bishops.
- Wittenberg did not regain the lead until 1:58 left in the third-quarter, after a Haley Dannemiller (Cleves, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) steal resulted in a beautiful find for a wide-open Riley McDonald (Dexter, Michigan/Dexter) layup.
- With 54 seconds left in regulation, Becca Ziska sunk her third three-pointer of the quarter to break the tie at 52, giving the Tigers a 55-52 lead.
