Hanover Topples City College of New York To Open Tourney

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - In the first game of the 2014 Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic, the Hanover Panthers breezed by the City College of New York with a final score of 79-54.

The Panthers opened the game on an 8-0 run and never looked back, allowing the Beavers to get no closer than four points the rest of the way. Hanover held a 44-27 lead at the intermission and CCNY trailed by at least 17 points throughout the second half.

The two teams shot a similar percentage from the field, with Hanover holding a slight edge at 42.6 to 38.1. However, the Panthers made three more three-point field goals and 12 more free throws in the game.

The two teams were also very even in rebounding, with Hanover hanging onto a 46-45 advantage. CCNY committed 29 turnovers in the game, however, leading to 29 points for the Panthers.

Four Hanover players scored in double figures in the game, led by Jessie Davidson with 17 points. Tiara Brown led CCNY with 19 points off the bench.

Each team will get to play one more game on Tuesday afternoon as the Beavers will square off with Mount St. Joseph at noon and the host Tigers will close out the competition with a game against Hanover at 4:30 p.m.
