NCAC Quarterfinal Loss Ends Tigers' Season

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's basketball 2013-14 season came to an end on Tuesday night as the Tigers fell by a score of 78-58 to Kenyon in the quarterfinals of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) tournament.

The Tigers conclude the season with a 14-11 overall record after finishing the NCAC regular season with a record of 9-7.

Wittenberg was led by junior Heather Schroeder (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora), who posted 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting and a 5-of-5 mark at the free throw line. Sophomore Ali Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) topped the rebounding column with seven boards, including four at the offensive end.

Two more Tigers scored in double figures, including 11 points for junior Enri Small (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls), who also led the team with three steals, and 10 points for freshman Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison), who finished the game 4-of-9 from the field. Both also had five rebounds, all five coming at Wittenberg's end for Brunswick.

Senior Amber Rice (South Charleston, Ohio/Southeastern) rounded out the top scorers with six points.

Kenyon built an early lead and held onto it throughout the game thanks to excellent shooting, finishing with a 52 percent team field goal percentage. Wittenberg led the rebounding battle 40-38.

Kenyon will go on to face fourth-ranked and top-seeded DePauw University in the semifinals of the NCAC Tournament in Greencastle, Ind., on DePauw's home court on Friday, Feb. 28.
