Tigers Bounce Back For Big Win Over Trine

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wittenberg women's basketball team showed tremendous resilience on the second day of the 2013-14 season, bouncing back from a close loss to eighth-ranked Thomas More to defeat Trine 78-46 in the consolation game of Wilmington's Damon's/Hampton Inn Tip-Off Tournament.

The Tigers are now 1-1 on the young season, with three more road games ahead over the next two weeks before the home opener on Nov. 30 against Ohio Christian. Trine, which lost to the host Quakers by four points on Friday, fell to 0-2.

Wittenberg jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the game's first eight minutes and never looked back. By halftime, the Tigers had opened a 46-18 lead and the remained at least 29 points the rest of the way.

The Tigers shot 43 percent from the field, compared to 30 percent for the Thunder, and Wittenberg also maintained a nine-rebound margin.

Junior Katelyn Haralamos (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) led four players in double figures offensively with 24 points, part of an outstanding all-around statistics line. She added seven rebounds, including four at the offensive end, three assists and two steals.

Junior Amber Rice (South Charleston, Ohio/Southeastern) contributed 13 points, four rebounds and three steals, while juniors Darbie Zirkle (St. Paris, Ohio/Graham) and Enri Small (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) added 10 points apiece. Small also paced the Tigers with nine rebounds, in addition to three assists and three steals in just 21 minutes of action.
