SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – It wasn't a work of art, except on the scoreboard. Playing in front of a crowd that included former student-athletes assembled for the Wittenberg women's basketball program's annual Alumnae Game as well as youngsters in attendance after the annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the Tigers held on for a 54-45 victory over Wooster.

After spotting Wooster an early two-point lead, the Tigers took control of the game almost immediately, pulling out to a 28-13 lead by halftime and then holding off a late charge by the Scots for the nine-point victory. With the win, Wittenberg improved to 8-8 overall and 4-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), while Wooster fell to 6-11 overall and 1-7 in the league.

Neither team could find the range offensively, with Wooster making just five shots in the first half and finishing a meager 17-of-61 for the game as a whole. At the other end, Wittenberg made just 31 percent from the field, but the Tigers outrebounded the visitors by a whopping 52-34 margin, including 19 offensive boards.

Individually, Wittenberg did not put a player in double figures in the scoring column, instead spreading the points around to nine different players. Sophomores Katelyn Haralamos (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) and Karen Daniel-Hamberg (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview) led the way with nine points apiece.

Daniel-Hamberg turned in a tremendous stats line, adding seven rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and two steals. Also of note was the play of sophomore point guard Amber Lara (Oak Park, Ill./River Forest), who scored two points and three assists while also coming up with a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 23, with the most challenging road trip of the season as they venture to No. 1 ranked DePauw. Wittenberg then heads back home for a date with Oberlin on Saturday, Jan. 26.
