Tigers Pull Away For 15-Point Win At Wooster

Katherine Hueter

WOOSTER, Ohio — A career-best 16 rebounds to go along with 14 points from senior Katherine Hueter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) powered the Wittenberg Tigers to a key 61-46 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) road victory at Wooster.

The win moved the Tigers back above the .500 mark both overall (9-8) and in the conference (4-3). Wooster fell to 2-15 overall and 0-7 in the NCAC.

While the Scots occupy the conference's cellar, they took a one-point lead on a three-pointer with 9:17 left in the game. Through that point, neither team had led by more than three during a hard-fought contest, but the Tigers responded with a game-changing 10-0 run.

The Tigers ended the game on a 22-6 burst, although they made just four of their last 10 free throws, covering the final 1:04 of the contest. For the game, the Tigers were 20-of-37 from the charity stripe, while they shot 34 percent from the field. Wittenberg did finish above its season average on three-pointers, hitting 5-of-13 after missing all 11 against Denison on Wednesday.

Hueter ran her season rebounding average to 9.1 after entering the day second in the NCAC with 8.6 per outing. She now has 680 career rebounds, having passed Margaret Grammas (1987-90) for the fifth spot in the team's record book earlier this season versus Ohio Wesleyan on Jan. 12 at Pam Evans Smith Arena. She needs just 24 rebounds to take the fourth spot from Beth Green (1991-94).

Hueter was joined in double figures offensively by sophomore Kim Replogle (Houston, Ohio/Houston), who contributed 12 points and four rebounds in 26 quality minutes off the bench, and junior Lyndsey Clark (New Carlisle, Ohio/Tecumseh) with 11 points and eight boards. Also of note, junior Lauren Cassel (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) stuffed the stats sheet with eight points, five rebounds and two assists, while sophomore Ashanta Robinson (Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs) finished with seven points and three boards in 14 minutes off the bench.

Perhaps the most glaring team statistic on the final sheet was rebounding - Wittenberg finished with a whopping 53-32 advantage, including a 16-9 edge in offensive caroms.
