Wittenberg Falls To National Powerhouse Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. - After a comfortable win on Friday, the Wittenberg women's basketball team fell 80-49 to national powerhouse Hope on Saturday, moving to 1-1 on the new season.

On Friday, a low shooting percentage was not enough to keep the Tigers from winning over Robert Morris, but on Saturday the Tigers shot just 26.3 percent from the field, including 3-of-27 in the first half, while No. 2 Hope shot nearly 50 percent from the floor to overpower Wittenberg.

In contrast to the team shooting, Wittenberg held a small advantage in rebounding, including a seven-board edge in the offensive column. Wittenberg was led in rebounding by senior all-tournament team honoree Carrie Dyer (Copley, Ohio/Copley), who earned her second double-double in as many games. She overcame a 3-of-13 performance from the floor against Hope's All-American center Carrie Snikkers with a 7-of-8 mark from the free throw line and 13 overall rebounds.

Led by Dyer, the Tigers posted a solid outing from the free throw stripe with 17 makes in 22 attempts, compared to just 9-of-17 for Hope. Senior wing Kellsea Vasileff (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) also helped at the line at 4-of-5.

The Tigers continue the road swing with a 7:30 p.m. contest at nearby Capital on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
