Tigers Pull Away From Oberlin To Even Overall Record

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers used a 13-0 run early in the second half to blow open a close game. It propelled Wittenberg to a 76-57 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) win over host Oberlin. 

The win evened the Tigers' record at 3-3 overall. But more importantly, Wittenberg heads into finals week with the best possible momentum - a 2-0 start to the 2009-10 NCAC campaign.

Oberlin held the early advantage but Wittenberg finished the first half on a 13-6 run to expand the lead from two to nine points. Starting with a free throw by senior post Stephanie Boardman (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) at the 18:32 mark of the second half, the ballooned to 20 points, capped by a jumper by junior forward Kali Parmley (Rushsylvania, Ohio/Benjamin Logan). The lead grew to 26 late in the game.

In all, 17 Tiger players saw action in the game, and 11 of them found their way into the scoring column. Boardman led with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while junior wing Katherine Hueter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) added 13 points, nine boards, five assists and two blocked shots in a tremendously complete performance.

Also making their marks on the stats sheet were junior Carrie Dyer (Copley, Ohio/Copley) with 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals, and sophomore post Sarah Watson (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) with 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

While taking their finals, the Tigers will prepare for another in what borders on a murderer's row of non-conference opponents. Wittenberg's next game is at Thomas More at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, the Tigers' last tune-up before the 2009 Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic at Pam Evans Smith Arena Dec. 29-30.
