Wittenberg Picks Up Conference Rout to Snap Skid

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — On National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the Tigers turned in one of their most complete performances of the year in a 74-46 rout of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) foe Hiram. Hot shooting, 27-of-57 from the floor, aided by an afternoon where the Tigers only committed 12 turnovers contributed to Wittenberg snapping a four-game losing streak.

Ten Tigers found their way into the scoring column, seven of whom scored five or more points. Junior wing Kellsea Vasileff (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) made the most of her 12 minutes on the floor, scoring five while adding a pair of boards, an assist and a steal. Junior wing Victoria Leali (Jackson, Ohio/Jackson) added eight points, including a pair of treys, in one of the best shooting afternoons all season for the Tigers from beyond the arc (5-for-11 for 46 percent). Those scoring totals complemented junior post Stephanie Boardman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley), who rebounded for a two-point performance against Allegheny on Friday with a 22-point outburst against the Terriers.

Hiram was led by the 14 points of Ashley Drum, but could never find consistent point production against a stifling Tiger zone. The Tigers forced the visitors to take 18 three-point attempts, with Hiram only making three.

The win comes at an important time for the Tigers as they climb back above .500 in the NCAC. With just three conference games remaining, the Tigers prepare to hit the road to Ohio Wesleyan for a Wednesday doubleheader with the Bishops. The women take the floor at 6 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 8 p.m.
