Tigers End Road Trip With Win At Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. — The Wittenberg Tigers capped a long weekend road trip with a 60-52 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory over the Allegheny Gators.

The win, Wittenberg's third in four games since a 23-day lay-off for final exams and the Christmas holiday, moved the Tigers to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC. Allegheny dropped to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

After a see-saw first half that featured five ties and three lead changes in favor of each team, the Tigers' post play dominated the final 20 minutes to earn Wittenberg its final eight-point margin. For the game, Wittenberg held a 30-18 edge in points in the paint, including an 18-10 advantage in the second half alone.

As she has all season, junior post Stephanie Boardman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) led the way offensively with 19 points. She filled the stats sheet, ending with nine rebounds, including five at the offensive end, three steals, one assist and one blocked shot. She was efficient on offense with 9-of-16 shooting from the field.

Just as effective offensively was junior wing Carrie Dyer (Copley, Ohio/Copley), who came off the bench to contribute a season-high 15 points. Dyer finished 3-of-7 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line to go along with eight rebounds and two steals.

Also of note was the play of senior post Rachel Dixon (West Liberty, Ohio/Salem)with six points and six rebounds in 32 minutes and sophomore wing Katherine Hueter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) with six points and five rebounds.

The Tigers hit the road again Wednesday when they head west to Richmond, Ind. They are scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off time against NCAC rival Earlham on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
