Tigers Pull Away From Oberlin For Big NCAC Win

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg women outscored Oberlin 44-19 in the second half as they routed the visitors in a 81-41 win from Pam Evans Smith Arena. The Tigers parlayed another dominating day on the boards, to the tune of a 62-34 margin, into an additional 12 field goal attempts. Add to that a strong day from the field where the Tigers shot 43 percent from the floor, and it translates to a fourth consecutive victory in conference play.

Oberlin hung around early, keeping the Tiger offense in check for the opening eight minutes of the contest. However, foul trouble for the Yeowomen and aggressive Tiger offense allowed Stephanie Boardman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) and company to take over the game. Boardman finished with her second highest output of the season - 24 points - to go along with 13 rebounds to lead all players in both statistical categories.

Wittenberg neutralized the 17 points of Alyssa Clark by continuing to press their advantage as they built a 16 point lead at the intermission. Rachel Dixon (West Liberty, Ohio/Salem) sparked Wittenberg early while finishing in double figures with 11 points. Meanwhile, the remaining eleven players that dressed for the contest all made contributions on both ends of the floor.

Twelve of the 13 Tigers got their name in the score column, while Kelsey Casey (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) attacked the Oberlin press and found a number of lay-ups as a result. Her nine points set a career-high, while her five assists led all players in the category. Katherine Hueter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) had four dishes of her own, while pulling down 11 rebounds.

Three other players had six or more points, including Kellsea Vasileff (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee)Carrie Dyer (Copley, Ohio/Copley) and Lyndsey Clark (New Carlisle, Ohio/Tecumseh). The Tigers established their second four-game winning streak with the victory, while Oberlin saw their two-game run snapped. The Tigers look to expand on their streak when they travel to Gambier, Ohio on Wednesday, Jan. 14 to take on the Kenyon College Ladies at 6 p.m.
