Tigers Fall At Baldwin-Wallace

BEREA, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers had a lot of momentum after winning twice at the Virginia Wesleyan Tournament to open the season and taking a three-point lead into the halftime locker room at Ohio Athletic Conference favorite Baldwin-Wallace Tuesday, but a 15-4 run to open the second half led the Yellow Jackets to a 65-50 victory over the Tigers.

The loss dropped Wittenberg to 2-1 overall heading into Saturday's contest at nationally ranked Capital. Baldwin-Wallace improved to 3-0 on the young season.

The Tigers led by as much as six in the first half, but Baldwin-Wallace took the lead on a jumper by Alyson Cotter with 17:31 remaining in the game and never looked back. Moments later, back-to-back three-pointers pushed the lead out to nine points and the Tigers struggled to keep it under double digits the rest of the way.

For the third straight game, the Tigers' main bright spots were junior post Kathy Hittle and junior guard Megan Miller, who combined for more than half of Wittenberg's offensive production. Hittle had her third straight double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Miller, MVP of the Virginia Wesleyan Tournament, added 12 points, all on three pointers.

BW shot over 50 percent in the second half and won the rebounding battle 39-31. The biggest statistical differential was free throws as the home team made 17-of-21 while Wittenberg was just 1-of-2. The Tigers were whistled for 18 fouls to just 10 for Baldwin-Wallace.
