Tigers Maintain NCAC Lead With Win At Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers kept the pace Saturday, making the long road trip to Oberlin a happy one with an 80-59 victory over the Yeowomen. It wasn't quite as dominating as the 46-point win Wittenberg recorded in a December meeting between the two teams, but the Tigers enjoyed a comfort level throughout and played everyone in uniform for the trip.

The win moved Wittenberg to 12-6 overall and 8-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. It was Wittenberg seventh win in the last eight games. Oberlin dropped to 3-15 on the season.

Through the first 12 minutes of the game, Wittenberg slowly eased out to a lead, but in the final 8:29 of the first half, the Tigers exploded for a 21-5 run that essentially decided things. The lead reached 36 points in the second half as the Tigers substituted liberally. All 17 players in the Red & White saw at least seven minutes of action.

Sophomore post Katie Gregorevich continued to make strong contributions off the bench for the Tigers, part of a post game that once again was the key to victory for Wittenberg. Gregorevich scored a season-high 21 points, one short of her career high of 22 established a year ago. She hit 10-of-12 shots from the field in the game, and she even added five rebounds and four steals to a superb all-around effort - all in 21 minutes off the bench.

Sophomore post Ali Rohlfs added 11 points and seven rebounds, and junior wing Megan Miller chipped in with 10 points, three rebounds and two assists. Ironically, junior post Kathy Hittle, the Tigers' leading scorer and rebounder, was limited to four points, five rebounds and three steals in 16 minutes. In two games against Oberlin this year, Hittle has just six points, a combined half of her season per-game average, as she has yielded to teammates offensively.

Oberlin picked up 24 points from Alyssa Clark and 20 points from Jessie Oram, but the Yeowomen managed little else offensively or defensively. Oberlin shot 38 percent from the field, lost the rebounding battle by eight, and the Yeowomen allowed Wittenberg to shoot above 50 percent from the field for the first time all season.
