Kathy Hittle Named Second-Team Academic All-District

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Wittenberg University women's basketball standout Kathy Hittle of Noblesville, Ind., class of 2007, has been recognized for the combination of her athletic and academic accomplishments with second-team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division All-District IV honors.

This is the first such honor in Hittle's fine Wittenberg career. A two-year starter and three-year letterwinner at the post position for the Tigers, Hittle is enjoying her finest season yet in the Red & White. A 2005 first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference honoree, Hittle is leading the Tigers in points, rebounds and blocked shots per game for a second straight season. For a third straight year, Hittle has improved those averages, pushing them to 11.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game in 2005-06.

Hittle carries a lofty grade point average while majoring in English, with a minor in education. A member of Delta Gamma sorority, Hittle serves on the Student Judicial Board and is also involved in the Pre-Law Club and Wittenberg's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In addition, she participated in a Habitat for Humanity trip to the impoverished African nation of Lesotho in 2005.

"This award speaks to Kathy's commitment to excel in the classroom and on the basketball court," said Wittenberg Women's Basketball Head Coach Pam Smith. "Kathy is a very dedicated student-athlete who sets her goals high and then works hard to achieve them. She is a well-rounded person who contributes a great deal to the entire Wittenberg community."

Hittle has led the Tigers to an NCAC regular season title in 2006, the program's fourth in the last five years and 11 th overall since joining the conference in 1989. The Tigers bring a 17-6 overall record and a mark of 13-1 into tonight's game at Kenyon College, the 2005 NCAC regular season champion. Wittenberg can clinch the regular season title outright with a win at Kenyon, but the Tigers already have earned home court advantage for next week's NCAC Tournament by virtue of a two-game sweep of second-place Allegheny.
