Tiger teams continue march through early-season schedules

SPRINGFIELD - The Wittenberg women's basketball team was a big winner at home on Wednesday night, utilizing some solid shooting and a suffocating defense to pull away in the first half and coast to an 85-56 victory over Thomas More in non-conference action.

The Tigers, who improved to 5-2 overall, were paced by junior guard Kate Rolf (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll), who led both teams with 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists. She hit 5-of-7 from three-point range to do the bulk of her damage in the game.

All 14 players on the Wittenberg bench saw action and scored against Thomas More, which fell to 6-4 overall. Other standouts were sophomore guard Christina Fischer (Norwood, Ohio/St. Ursula), who hit three three-pointers for nine points and distributed a game-high six assists. Sophomore guard/forward Haley Warden (Loveland, Ohio/Indian Hill) also had a solid game off the bench, contributing five points, three rebounds and three assists in just 11 minutes of play.

The Tigers return to action and to the radio airwaves on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Defiance College. Game time is 2 p.m.
