Goodwin Named Wittenberg Softball Head Coach

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg University Head Softball Coach, Shannon Schaub has stepped down since taking over the program in June of 2018.

Schaub amassed a career record of 64-79-2 and 24-33-1 during her tenure in Springfield. Throughout this stretch, seven players were named to the All-North Coast Athletic Conference team.

Wittenberg Vice President and Director of Athletics & Recreation, Brian Agler '80, has elevated current assistant coach Ashley Goodwin to become the 10th head coach of Wittenberg Softball.

"We are excited about the promotion of Ashley to the head coaching position of our softball program. Ashley has great connections and is a respected coach in the softball community and within our athletic department" said Agler. "With Ashley, we feel we can build an extremely comfortable softball program within the conference and region."

As an assistant with the Tigers since 2018, Goodwin maintains a knowledge of program and university foundations to carry the Wittenberg Softball program into the future. Goodwin also possesses high-level playing experience, as a four-year standout and captain at The Ohio State University. While with the Buckeyes, Goodwin was a three-year starter on the infield, earning two Gold Glove awards.

"First and foremost I want to thank Coach Schaub for everything she has done for myself and the team. I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to lead this program. When we came in six years ago we had very high goals. We have achieved many and are still working towards some. I am grateful that I now have the opportunity to carry on leading this program and creating a coaching foundation of my own," said Goodwin. "I want to extend my gratitude to Brian Agler and Bret Billhardt for placing their trust in me to lead this talented group of athletes. I have no doubt that we have the tools and players to be successful and compete for a championship. I cannot wait to get started! Tiger up!"

Outside of Wittenberg, the California native, was the Director of Fastpitch Softball with Pauer Sports Performance, managing and developing their 8U through 18U programs. With Pauer Softball, Goodwin manages and organizes program practices for all coaches at each level and coordinates parent and coach communications. In her role with Pauer, Goodwin has helped promote academic success and personal growth to multiple athlete, guiding them to both on and off field successes while helping them continue their athletic career at the collegiate level.
