Tiger Softball Sweeps Oberlin At Home

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger Softball team secured their first sweep of the season with a pair of wins over the Oberlin College Yeowomen. The Tigers took game one by a final 3-1 score. The Wittenberg offense continued to power along in game two for a 6-1 win.

The Tiger's collected five hits in the first game on the back of dominant pitching performance from Julie Hall. Hall allowed just three hits through 6.1 innings pitched and one run allowed and two strikeouts. Winning pitcher of game two, Kira van Ravensberg would first debut in game one to secure the save for Wittenberg making it her second of the season.

The top of the Tiger line-up did the damage in game one, as Briana Busic, Julia Burch, Lilly James, Hanna Ecker, and Meghan McCans each tallied a hit. The back-to-back hitters of James and Ecker provided the run-support for the Wittenberg offense. Ecker drove in the first Wittenberg run of the game with a single to right, scoring Busic. James added the final two Tiger runs in the fifth, driving a shot into center and plating McCans and Samantha Casteel.

After Oberlin was the first to strike in game two, the Tigers responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Ecker pushed across the first Wittenberg run. Samantha Zungri added the second RBI of the inning with a single to left, making it a 2-1 game. Wittenberg added two more to their advantage, starting with a single to center and scoring Harper Crews. McCans tallied her first RBI of the afternoon with a single up the middle, giving Wittenberg the 4-1 advantage. A fifth inning two-RBI double by Casteel put Wittenberg ahead 6-1 for their first sweep of the season.

Van Ravensberg secured her fourth win of the season, tossing a complete game with seven innings pitched and seven hits allowed, including four strikeouts.
