Tigers Split Final Day of Transylvania Invitational

Lexington, KY – For the second day in a row, the Wittenberg Tiger Softball team ended their doubleheader of the day with a win. After falling to Defiance in the opener, 5-0, Wittenberg bounced back with a hard-fought, 5-4, win over the Eagles from Asbury University.  

Collecting four hits in the first game, Wittenberg responded with nine hits in the second and a first inning scoring rally to jump start their offense.

Julia Burch went 3 for 3 with a run scored in the second game. Ashlynn Stamper was the second Tiger to tally multiple hits in the second game, including her first collegiate home run. Stamper went deep to center field in the first inning, giving Wittenberg the early 2-0 advantage.

Asbury knotted the game up at 2-2 in the third inning. Diana Quevedo put Wittenberg back on top in the fourth inning, with a single through the left side, making it a 3-2 game. A fifth-inning home run from the Asbury offense tied the game back at 3-3. Leading to another two-run scoring rally for the Wittenberg offense in the bottom of the fifth.

Kira van Ravensberg secured the win in the final game of the weekend for the Tiger softball team, with 5.1 innings pitched. Allowing 10 hits, van Ravensberg fanned two Asbury hitters with three runs surrendered with two earned. Lilly James earned her first collegiate save, putting in 1.2 innings of work, striking out one batter with two hits allowed.
