Tigers Sweep Oberlin From The Road

Oberlin, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger softball team closed out their season on the road at Oberlin College with a sweep of the Yeowomen. Wittenberg took game one by way of an 8-0 shutout and secured the sweep with an 8-2 win in the final game of the series. The Tigers tallied 28 hits in the series, with Elise Freeland leading the charge at the top of the order. Freeland went 7 of 9 from the plate on the day with six RBI, including going a perfect 4 for 4 in game one.

The Tigers got the scoring started in the first inning with an RBI single from Clara Andersen, scoring Elise Freeland. Freeland added to the Tiger advantage in the second inning, driving in Briana Busic. Wittenberg drove in four runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead over the Yeowomen. Hits came from Freeland, Andersen, Alexis Christy and Hanna Ecker. Freeland sealed the victory for the Tigers in the fifth inning with a two-RBI single through the left side. Kira van Ravensberg picked up the win in the circle for Wittenberg, allowing just two hits with one strikeout.

After a scoreless first, Wittenberg picked up where they left off in the second inning of game two. The Tigers posted one run in the first and two in the third to take an early 3-0 lead over Oberlin. A single up the middle by Freeland in the second scored Samantha Casteel to put Wittenberg on the board. Casteel drove in two more Tiger runs in the third, plating Diana Quevedo and Lexi Williams. Adding three more to their lead in the sixth. Wittenberg added their final two runs in the seventh inning, with a single through the right side from Freeland. Julia Burch plated the final Tiger run, putting Wittenberg ahead 8-0 with a single to the left side and scoring Busic.

Samantha Zungri closed out the season in the circle for the Tigers with a complete game. Zungri allowed four hits with one strikeout.

The Tigers close out the season at 15-20 and 6-10 in North Coast Athletic Conference action.
