Tigers Split NCAC Slate With Denison

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger Softball team split their final NCAC home series of the season with the Big Red from Denison University. Wittenberg fell in game one by a final score of 12-6. The Tigers responded in game two with a 7-1 win over the Big Red. Wittenberg tallied 23 hits on the day, putting together 12 hits in their game-two win over Denison. The duo of Alexis Christy and Hanna Ecker tallied multiple hits for the Tiger offense. Christy started the day, going 4 for 4 from the plate with two RBI, adding two more hits in game two. Ecker put together a pair of two-hit games with a double coming in each.

Wittenberg was the first to strike with a two-RBI triple coming from Clara Anderson, scoring Elise Freeland and Julia Burch. Nikki Hawkins brought in Andersen, executing the sacrifice bunt to extend the Wittenberg lead. An RBI single from Ecker plated the final Wittenberg run of the first inning, giving the Tiger's the 4-0 advantage. Denison was able to steal a run back in the fifth, before Wittenberg added two more to their tally. Emily Jones tacked on an RBY single to left. Julia Burch would leave the Big Red defense without an out with the bases loaded, plating Briana Busic for the sixth Tiger run. Ecker doubled down the line in right in the sixth, scoring the final Tiger run.

Kira van Ravensberg picked up the win with 7.0 innings pitched and one run allowed, striking out four.

Wittenberg will return to action on Thursday, April 28, hosting Marietta College. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
