Tiger Softball Soars Past Oneonta 9-7

TUSCON, Arizona—Wittenberg softball kept the ball rolling Wednesday with a 9-7 win over Oneonta University. The Tigers exploded for nine runs on 12 hits, including homeruns from Rachel Black and Abby Curnutte. The Tigers trailed 5-0 going into the top of the fourth innings before tacking on runs six runs. Wittenberg added to their lead in the sixth with three more runs before Oneonta cut the lead to two in the sixth inning. Wittenberg's 9-7 lead stood, as the Tigers improved to 3-6 on the year.

OFFENSIVE NOTES: Cassidy Rowe and Curnutte led the Tigers at the dish, each posting a pair of hits including a Rowe double and a Curnutte homer. Curnutte's long ball to left-center gave the Tigers a 6-5 lead in the fourth inning, as the Tigers would not trail again in the win. Eight different Tigers recorded hits in the 9-7 win, as Katy Baumgartner totaled three hits in the game, including two RBI's.

DEFENSIVE NOTES: Abby Haab picked up her first win of the year on Wednesday, as the senior relieved freshman starting pitcher Katelyn Niswonger after three innings of work. Haab and Niswonger scattered 10 hits in the game, struck out seven and walked four in a game where Wittenberg made only one defensive miscue. Haab helped slam the door on Wednesday, surrendering two runs through four innings of work late in the game.
