Tigers Drop 5-4 Decision to Linfield

TUSCON, Arizona—Wittenberg looked to bounce back against Linfield after suffering an extra-inning defeat earlier in the day. In the Arizona heat, Linfield and Wittenberg battled, as Wittenberg came out on the wrong end of a 5-4 decision. The Tigers trailed 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning before clawing back to 5-4 after a Katy Baumgartner two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning. That's as close as the Tigers would get, as the valiant comeback came up just short, as Wittenberg fell to 1-5 on the year.

OFFENSIVE NOTES:  Wittenberg didn't get on the board until the fifth inning after Cassidy Rowe scored on an error by Linfield's second basemen. Trailing 5-1 in the seventh, Alex Gibson singled home Rowe to cut the lead to 5-2. Baumgartner's bomb cut Linfield's lead to 5-4, but the Tigers would come up short in the bottom of the frame. Rowe and Baumgartner led the Tigers with two hits each, as Baumgartner had a game-high two RBI's on the afternoon. Wittenberg mustered up five hits as a team, as Wittenberg walked twice and struck out once in 26 at bats as a team.

DEFENSIVE NOTES:  Wittenberg recorded an error early on in the contest, as Linfield committed two in the contest. In the circle, Chelsea Zang logged 3.2 innings of work, surrendering four hits and two earned runs. Briana Gibson relieved Zang with two outs in the fourth, logging 3 innings of work, scattering four hits and two earned runs.
